Toilet training your cat is not impossible. It may take some time, but you can learn how to toilet train a cat no matter their age. There are many methods that will work, but you must keep in mind that you will need patience. If you understand that your cat will not use the toilet over night, you will have more success.
Cats are very intelligent. They also behave instinctually. You will need to train out the instinct for the cat to scratch and cover their urine and feces. This is the first step to toilet training your cat. There are many products on the market that will help you to learn how to toilet a train a cat. If you would prefer to do this without any monetary expenditure, you can. It may take longer and put a bit more stress on your cat, but you can still toilet train a cat.
The products that are available to toilet train your cat typically come with an insert that fits into the toilet. This insert allows you to put litter in it for the cat to use. Once your cat has become familiar with this insert, they will use this as their litter box. This is the most important step. Your cat has got to become used to sitting on the toilet seat while doing their business. You will need to come up with a system at home that will allow for the same type of training. You can use a shallow pail that will just under the toilet seat. You can leave the toilet water off if you are using a spare bathroom to do the training in.
Once you have moved on, you can then turn the water back on. Once your cat has become used to using either the insert or your homemade trainer, you will then want to begin the next step. This step requires a hole to put in either the insert or your device. This hole will become larger and larger as the weeks progress. As you are toilet training your cat, your cat will be getting used to less and less litter until the litter is completely removed.
