Cat Toilet Seat Training

Steps for Using a Cat Toilet Seat

If you would like to use a cat toilet trainer to get your cat using the bathroom in the toilet, there are some steps you will need to take.  The steps for using a cat toilet seat are pretty easy.  You will need to have a lot of patience as cats are very independent and may balk at using the cat toilet trainer at first.

The first step to using a cat toilet seat is to move the litter box into the bathroom.  If it is already in the bathroom, then you are one step ahead.  If you have two bathrooms, you may want to use the bathroom that gets the least amount of traffic.  This will allow the cat more freedom and comfort.  Many cats will not use the bathroom when there are people watching.  They may end up going in a corner or under a bed if they are not comfortable in the bathroom.

The second step is to place the litter box at a height that is similar to the toilet height.  You can even place the litter box directly on the toilet seat if you are confident that it will not fall off while kitty does its business.  If you have a sturdy table that will fit in the bathroom that kitty will be using and that is the same height as the toilet, you can place the litter box on this.  This will get your cat used to jumping up to use the bathroom.

For the next step, you will need a cat toilet seat or cat toilet trainer.  This is typically a shallow plastic pan that will fit inside the toilet under the seat.  You will put kitty litter in this pan.  Your cat will then do their business in this pan.  A cat toilet trainer will have areas that will pop out.  As the cat gets used to using the trainer, you will begin to pop out sections of it.  The sections start in the middle and work outwards until your cat is no longer going in the pan, but in the toilet.
